Office 2010 Starter Edition the freeware OOPS adware version of Office 2010 has leaked on the Internet by a WinMatrix forum user.

The starter edition of Office 2010 includes Microsoft Word Starter Edition and Microsoft Excel starter edition, which do not have all the features of the regular Word and Excel. However, the starter edition will be enough for your day to day use of dealing with documents.

Creating collages of favorite photos is great fun! It’s also a nice way of collecting some of your memorable photos. To help you with this collage creating, here is an online tool, Shape Collage.

Shape Collage is an excellent and simple online tool that helps you to create collages of your favorite photos across the web. Google Search has had tough competition lately with the introduction of Bing. However, the innovation @Google never ends and they have been continuously updating their search to make it much better and useful to users.

Some recent introductions in Google Search labs include:

• Social search: Allows you to find results from your social contacts in search results.
• Keyboard shortcuts: Allows you to browse the results using your keyboard.
• Accessible View: Allows you to navigate search results quickly and easily.

In addition to that, Search Engine Land is reporting that Google is also playing around with a new sidebar which will make the search results more jazzier.

From the looks of it, it definitely looks more jazzier, however, it is also more useful as the sidebar sports links to narrow the search down to particular segments like images, news, books, maps and so on.

In addition to that, the search also provides related suggestions under the “See also” category. This can come in pretty handy when users are trying to use Google to search for travel destinations since they have more similar options to search from.

Overall the new interface is pretty exciting and it will be good to see it being rolled out soon. One thing is for sure, search is the bread and butter for Google and they will never be buoyed down by competition. And any innovation is always good for consumers like us, may it be new features or new competition, it is a win win situation.

Sometime back we told you about a trick to bypass the time limits imposed by Megavideo a popular site for watching videos. Megavideo imposes a limit of 72 minutes of continuous video watching till it pops up a alert saying that you need to wait for a certain time before you can watch the video.

This can be quite annoying when you want to watch longer videos continuously for free. The trick we told you previously helped many users to bypass those limits, however, we came across some new tricks to bypass the limit.

The first one includes getting a new video URL by visiting Mega Streaming and using it to watch the video instead of the regular Megavideo URL. The second one includes using a Firefox add-on called IIIitmux.

You will need to generate the URL and use the add-on before you start watching the video. Have fun watching full videos at Megavideo without interruptions.

An M3U file simply tells the player where the real song track is located and in what order is the song list to be played. Originally, Winamp was the first player to support this format, but slowly with time, M3U has become the de facto format for media playlists. Mostly all desktop media players now support M3U playlists, and you can play and create playlists from within the application.

If you have an M3U file on your computer, you should be able to play it with any music player installed on your system. On Windows, just right click the file –> Select ‘Open As’ –> Select the player you wish to play it with.

As made obvious, M3U files can’t be burnt to CDs and other devices as such because they just point to the original media. When transferring you songs from your computer to another device, make sure you transfer the real files instead of M3U playlists.

The card has two 40nm based Cypress cores and has double the Stream processors and ROPs of ATi HD5870. The GDDR5 memory chips however run at frequencies similar to that of ATi HD5850, in order to keep power consumption in control. The maximum power consumption of the card is around 295W, and only 42W at idle. The card also features the latest technologies featured in ATi HD5850 and HD5870, like eyeInfinity, Dx11 and many new ones like real time power monitoring, pure ceramic super capacitors etc.

Interested buyers can find the HD5970 immediately at sale with retailers for an MSRP of 599$. With Nvidia, unable to launch their Dx 11 based Fermi cards before Q1, 2010, ATi has been able to get the performance crown back from Nvidia for at least the next 6-7 months.

However, the Tablet PC Vega, is a full streaming media, touch screen device that runs the Android. The interesting thing is that it run’s the same latest version of Android, Android 2.0 “Eclair”, as the Motorola Droid.

However, the Vega runs the NVIDIA Tegra, Nvidia’s graphics-cum-applications processor for Mobile devices which supports 1080p Full HD, found in other high-definition devices like Microsoft’s ZuneHD.

The Vega will be available in three screen sizes : 7 inches, 11 inches and the 15th inch. Currently, ICD has released the 15 inch version. It contains an accelerometer and the 3G wireless as well as 802.11b/g WLAN modules. It has USB 2.0 ports and support for MicroSD and Bluetooth. With four hours of battery life, a 3.1 MP Camera and 512 MB RAM, this is full fledged Tabled PC.

With a device like the Vega, application like On-demand TV, Gaming, Voice and SMS as well as Social Media applications, Video chatting, Music, etc. will be an enhanced experience.

Frameworks like Android, Moblin and Maemo are lowering the barrier-to-entry for company’s like ICD. The only factor that may or may not determine the success of these devices is the price-point, which, for the Vega is still unknown.

One thing to be noted here is that the USB 3.0 controller used by Asus is not made by Intel, it is in fact, made by NEC. Intel announced few weeks ago that they won’t be integrating a USB 3.0 controller in their chipsets before next year.The Core i3 Processor line-up will feature a 45nm based integrated graphics in the same core as the processor and to take advantage of the integrated graphics, the motherboard must have support for Flexible Display Interface. Flexible Display Interface will allow the user to output graphics via the integrated graphics on the processor through HDMI, DVI or VGA port. The motherboard will also support Intel Clarkdale 32nm CPU’s when launched.

MenQ EasyPC 790 or the E790, is the latest offering from MenqGroup and is being touted as being the world’s cheapest laptop. At $89, their claim can hardly be challenged.

Running Samsung’s 400Mhz ARM9 processor and 128MB RAM, it is definitely capable of running Android. Currently it has Windows CE 5.0 installed, which does not seem like such a good move from MenQ especially since Windows CE 6.0 has had better reviews.

With 7 inches of screen size , 3 USB ports, a LAN interface and 802.11b/g supported Wireless LAN interface, this is a full fledged Netbook device.

If MenQ can manage to sell this device running a licensed version on Windows CE 5.0 for approximately $90 , can you imaging the cost if it were to run Android or Ubuntu or Moblin or any other open source distribution natively ?

The EX-FC150, apart from the befuddling name, is a pretty good point and shoot compact. It is a successor to the equally wickedly-named EX-FC100 and features a new backlit CMOS sensor with 10 million pixels. The EX-FC150 retains the 5x optical zoom and sensor-shift image stabilization from its predecessor. With a 2.7 inch LCD screen, the camera will also sport 720p video recording at 30 frames a second.

On the other hand, the EX-FC150’s big brother EX-FH25 is a superzoom camera. (Do you notice the similarity of names of these brothers? I assume their whole family has such out of the world names.) With a similar backlit CMOS sensor, the EX-FH25 can zoom upto 20x at 10MP. Like its younger sibling, it can also shoot 720p HD video at 30fps and both cameras can shoot video at a mouth-staggering frame rate of 1000fps at a mouth-shut resolution of 224×34.

You can find both of these cameras in the stores on November 27. We can’t tell you about the prices though, because that’s supposed to be surprise. Oh, no wait. Even Google Translator didn’t know that, so how can we?

There has been a new Malware circulating around the world that affects Jailbroken iPhone/iPods. The malicious code is called “iPhone/Privacy.A”.

This piece of malicious code, if affected your Jailbroken iPhone, will scan for jailbroken iPhones within its range and if it finds one, it connects to that Jailbroken iPhone running SSH with the default password and takes away all the data including your email, SMS’s , Pictures, Music files, Videos, Calendar entries, and practically any data recorded by an iPhone application.

However, this malicious code affects only Jailbroken iPhones or the modded iPhones that have been modified to run unapproved software, which are running SSH with the default password “alpine” enabled. So if you have Jailbroken your iPhone, we recommend that you change your password from “alpine” to something more secure.

SandForce is a relatively new company in the SSD Controller market, but it already has more than twenty patents under its name and has many industry veterans working in it. SandForce has been preparing two new SSD controller’s – SF-1200 and SF-1500. The former NAND controller is targeted at enthusiasts and supports SSDs of capacities of up to 512Gb. The controller also supports Multi Level Cell Flash chips and can provide a maximum sequential read/write speed of 260MB/sec via the SATA II interface. The SF-1500 is targeted at high-end enterprise and workstation class. The SF-1200 and SF-1500 are identical in performance and the maximum capacity they support, except that the SF-1500 also supports Single Level Cell Flash chips for a higher number of write and erase cycles.

Let’s get this straight. Samsung Jet is not ‘smarter than smartphone’ as the Samsung marketing folks would like us to believe. This doesn’t imply that it is a bad phone, but it’s not a phone you’ll put on the table when you talk about the Windows phones, Blackberry, Nokia E-series, or even the iPhone.

All in all, Samsung Jet is a fine phone… a multimedia/lifestyle device at its best, but the absence of a few critical capabilities hurts at its price-point.

The non-smart Smartphone

The Samsung Jet is a high specification phone, but totally misses the boat to smartness because of a lack of applications – third-party or otherwise. After the super-success of the Apple’s App Store, RIM, Nokia, and Microsoft have come up with their application stores to feed their Smartphones for utilities, productivity applications, and even leisure applications and games. Samsung offers no such service and the user has to satiate him with the limited bundled offerings.

However, Vikas Tagra, Brand Manager for Samsung Jet and Ankur Sharma, Digital Manager, Samsung Mobile indicated that something similar was in the works. They didn’t share the specifics, but indicated a period of 6-10 months for some more announcements.

The goodness

Everything, as you power on the phone. The new version of the TouchWiz interface that visualizes the different homescreen pages onto the sides of a cube, similarly to the LG’s S-CLASS 3D UI, A-GPS, 800 MHz processor, 3.5mm audio jack, 5MP camera, 2 GB internal memory, a 3.1-inch AMOLED display with WVGA resolution, and the long battery life.

If you need one reason to buy the Samsung Jet, it’s the AMOLED screen- Bright, crisp, and watching photos and videos is an immersive experience.

The 5MP camera really impresses, and the flash is bright. Hours of internet browsing (and tweeting) and playing games only drains about 40% of the battery. The AMOLED screen, supposedly, reduces the power consumption by a great degree. The internet browser is simply awesome with inbuilt flash player and the one-touch zoom option. The music player is great, with twelve profiles to choose from giving an amazing listening experience. The universal 3.5mm audio jack for headsets is a fine thought.

The negatives

This might be a little issue for some, but for a Windows phone user like me (so with other Smartphones), the absence of threaded SMS makes me cringe. So does the missing copy/paste and push email feature. It also hurts that, while Samsung provides for a universal 3.5mm audio jack, it misses a standard mini USB port.

Sony Ericsson has officially entered the Android Market with its Xperia X10. Few days ago, when Sony had come up with “what next” campaign, where we sort of already knew that Sony Ericsson would come up with Xperia X10 launch.

Mobile Email Device Manufacturer Peek has joined hands with Twitter to bring out the world’s first Twitter-only Mobile Device: “TwitterPeek“.

This handset can send and receive tweets, Direct messages, Follow new users, and view Twitpic images. But you cannot read the interesting articles submitted to your timeline, as this device does not have a web browser. I am also not sure if it supports the new feature by twitter, “Lists”. Also, it does not support search. So, you cannot keep a tab on few trends or some brand.

Tweetpeek is available for sale Amazon.com or TwitterPeek.com for $100. With this, you get 6 months free wireless connection and after utilizing the free connection you will be charged $7.95 per month. However, you can also get lifetime wireless access if you chose to pay $200 upfront.

I wonder who would buy this device, as almost all new mobile devices already has a web browser or supports 3rd party applications. Nor would I like to carry two devices; one for tweeting and one for making calls. My cell phone does both- and does it very well.

George Hotz will be releasing Blacksn0w and Blackra1n RC3 on November 3rd instead of November 4th. For those who are unaware what this is, here is a bit of head up. Blacksn0w is the unlock tool for the latest 05.11.07 baseband. It will enable official tethering on your iPhone. Blackra1n is a jailbreak for firmware version 3.1.2 and it has been updated to RC3.

RC3 will come packed with features like:

• installation of the Blackra1n app

For those who haven’t done this before, this time GeoHot has made it even more simpler for you. Here is a simple guide for it:

Opera has announced the release of Opera for Mobile 10 Beta today. The previous version was Opera Mini 5, which is also being developed for Android phones.

Opera 10 Beta retains the looks of Opera Mini 5 Beta and also supports Turbo mode to save money. The app work seamlessly on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic which has a touch screen UI.

Nokia 5800 is widely known for its low RAM, however, I did not see problems even after running the Opera app for 30 minutes. In fact, Opera 10 Beta used up almost every bit of RAM, but surprising it did not affect the browsing experience.

Opera 10 gives you a lot of options to suit your browsing needs. I decided to turn on the Turbo mode and browse the web. With turbo mode on, the browsing seemed much faster. Like Opera Mini 5, this version also supports tabbed browsing. Other features include Speed dial, password manager and a option to block Pop-ups.

Browsing, as I mentioned earlier, is lightening fast, as I had turned the turbo mode ON. To experiment with Turbo mode, I changed the browser settings to disable images. With this setting on I visited web pages I had visited earlier, and found that it loaded the images from the cache, which is quite cool. Once the page loads, you can tap it twice to zoom in to the page, if you haven’t turned the mobile view on.

Somehow typing on Opera Mobile 10 Beta is as horrendous as it was on OperaMini 5 Beta. However, it should only concern you if you are using a touch screen enabled mobile, which does not come with a physical qwerty or keyboard.

I was expecting Opera Mobile 10 to have flash support considering that the browser has a whooping 4MB installer, but then it disappoints me again.

What we like:

1. Sleek design.
2. Caching the images.
3. Tabbed browsing.
4. Does not slow down the device.

What we don’t like:

1. Huge 4MB installer.
2. No flash support.
3. RAM hogger.
4. Onscreen keyboard is horrible on touch devices.

In order to open .zipx files you will need to download and install a trial version of WinZip, PowerArchiver or Stuffit Deluxe.

All of these softwares are paid, however you can install WinZip and continue using it for free for a long time. Please note you will have to download WinZip 12 or higher in order to open .zipx files.

These large files can then be easily downloaded in parts and later rejoined to create the actual file.

Usually in many cases there might be several pieces of files called as filename.001, filename.002, filename.003 and so on. There may be any number of files but the extension will always be incremental so the next file in the above series may be .004 and so on.

In order to join the files you will require to download HJ-Split. HJ-Split is a portable software. Once you have downloaded it you can double click on the executable to launch it.

To join the .001 and other files in the series, select Join from the HJ-Split options and select the input file (this will always be the .001 file). Select the output directory and click on start to join the files into a single one.

After you have joined the files you can safely delete .00x files.

XPS files contain XML markups for each page the text, embedded images and so on.

XPS files can usually be opened by any software that can open zip files. Extracting the content may not actually show you the documents in a proper format.

Microsoft has a handy tool called XPS viewer which will allow you to open and view XPS file. You can also view the XPS files by opening them in Internet explorer.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 the XPS viewer is already installed so you can simply open the file in the XPS viewer or drag it to internet explorer to open it.

Disabling images from loading is pretty simple and you do not need to add any Firefox add-ons . Follow the simple steps to disable images in Firefox.

Disable Images from Loading in Firefox

Step 1: Go to Tools -> Options in Firefox.

Step 2: Go to the content tab and de-select the checkbox next to Load images automatically.

Step 3: If you want certain sites to still load images you can click on the Exceptions button and add the URLs of the sites that you want images to load for.

That’s it the images will not load in Firefox unless you load it explicitly by right clicking on the image. If you are looking to block images for only certain sites you can always right click on a image on the page and select “Block images from domain name….”

Or a better solution would be to use the Image Block extension which will allow you to selectively block images on certain sites.

Img/Ima files are very similar to ISO files, however many backup softwares use .img and .ima format to store information.

According to Wikipedia a IMG file format can be any of these things;

1. A CD or DVD image file, essentially equivalent to an ISO file. On such a file, simply changing the extension from IMG to ISO can make it usable as the latter by most programs.
2. An archive format used for creating a disk image of floppy disks and HDDs. This allows for digital storage, transmission, and replication of floppy disks and HDDs. Files created using this format typically use the ".IMG" file extension.
3. A file in the Macintosh Disk Image format.
4. A graphics image format used in various ways by many different graphics software packages.

To open a .img or .ima file or mount it as a virtual drive you can use a software called Magic Disc, you can learn about how you can mount img files in this tutorial on mounting ISO files as a virtual drive, though the tutorial talks about ISO files, .img and .ima files can also be mounted in a similar way.
